Glazed Cabinets

One question I am often asked is “What are the current trends in cabinets?” We definitely see clients leaning more towards personalizing their space to what THEY like and not necessarily what everyone else is doing. One trend we saw a lot in the early to mid 2000’s was painted and glazed cabinets. We don’t glaze many painted cabinets these days. Most clients are looking for a cleaner, less ornate style and finish and are not opting for a glazed cabinet.

What is a glaze? A glaze is like a thick paint that is wiped over the entire door or just put in the profiles and then wiped off. It gives the cabinet an antiqued or aged look. It adds a lot of depth to the cabinet door and highlights the profiles. If that is the style cabinet you are looking for, by all means put a glazed cabinet in.  But if you are looking for a cleaner, more streamlined look, consider just painting your cabinets.

One thing we do know is that what comes around goes around and comes back again. I am sure we will see glazing brought back at some time in the future, but for now, it is not the most popular trend.
